Twenty-Four Weeks

I have reached twenty-four weeks (as of this past Saturday). According to BabyCenter, Baby Girl Helms is growing steadily, and has gained about a quarter of a pound since last week. Since she's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), that makes a pretty lean figure, but her body is filling out proportionally and she'll soon put on more baby fat. Her skin is thin, translucent, and wrinkled, her brain is growing rapidly, and her taste buds are developing. Her lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" and cells that produce surfactant, a substance that helps the air sacs inflate easily.

Tomorrow marks an appointment with the midwife, and I am supposed to have the glucose screening done, so keep your fingers crossed for me that all goes well.

Also, I heard from my Discipleship Group leader and dear friend, Virginia, last night (she is also a midwife, just at a different practice) that Margaret is back in the office, so I am super excited about that!!!
